THE WELL DRESSED BLUES BAND
HOW I JOINED THE BAND In November of 1990 I got a job with IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York. I moved up there alone and not knowing anyone I met a guy at work named Tom Hunter. He played jazz/blues piano and invited me to an open Mic blues night at a lounge at the Fishkill Mall or someplace like that. I sat in with Tom and a few guys that he was jammin with. It sounded good to me so we did it agin the following week and decided to start the Well Dressed Blues Band. They might have been together before that but they invited me to join their group. I thought all the guys were cool and even dressed the part. Bean was the leader/ lead singer and lead guitar player, Gil Cruz playing a solid bass, Donny Strofalino was a great swinging drummer, Tom Hunter was also good and fast at the keys. I added the 2nd lead guitar with a different style than bean so we complimented each other rather well. The band worked 2 to 3 nights a week for about a year before Bean moved to San Francisco. He was such a big part of the band so when he left we just went our seperate ways. The coolest thing about the band is that we only had about 2 or 3 rehearsals the entire year we were together so most of our songs were just made up on the fly. We could read each other real well. Bean would call out... " In the Key of C.. from the 5...with a flat tire kind of beat OK take it away fella's a one.. a two a 1-2-3-4 and then we wailed. The group was very popular in the Hudson Valley New York area. I sure miss those guys and that kind of band...
