 MY MUSICAL BEGINNING

I first started playing guitar in 1964. After learning a few Beatle songs on a cheap Spanish guitar, my dad picked me up a cheapo "MADE IN JAPAN" electric guitar called an "Andre" It was all I knew about electric guitars and it was very difficult to play. I played this guitar for about a year before my father surprised me on my15 birthday with a brand new Fender Stratocaster.  Click here for the story of my
Strat
I met a friend at the bus stop "Bob Farris" who also played guitar so we got together quite often and taught each other whatever we knew. below is a pic of Bob and the other is when I sat in with his band in 1992. In 1966 we started a band
together for a Jr High school talent show called "THE
PENDLETONS" We played Beach Boys surf music
and some instrumentel songs by "The Ventures"
such as "Pipeline" and "Wipeout" We met another
guy at our bus stop "Robert Curtis" these old pics
were taken at a party at his house and it shows of
our Fender equipment.
When we were in High School we had a band called "The Outcast Set" We played in our school play "Bye Bye Birdie" Our singer got the lead roll and we played 2 songs in the play. These pictures were taken from High Point HS's Yearbook.

In the pic above "Bob Farris" on the left is playing my Stratocaster and I am playing a Mosrite 12 string borrowed from our rhythm guitarist "Pat Purcell".

After the summer of my senior year of High School (1968) I joined the "Electric Twinkie"  which was a version of the "Outcast Set"   Click on the button below to go to that page..
